Neighborhood Revitalization

Due to a combination of factors both pre and post Katrina, Treme’s economic climate is somewhat devastated.  We at Ujamaa CDC are constantly engaged in discussion about stimulating the neighborhood economy through many avenues.

As more of our residents return to the neighborhood, we are engaged in community assessment to identify the community’s most pressing needs.  Job training has been identified as a key factor in reinvigorating the neighborhood economy.  Ujamaa CDC is also interested in bringing more retail establishment into the community in the future as well.

We are currently focused on meeting the basic needs of our community, such as the critical need for housing and getting our properties, such as the St. Ann Senior Apartments, renovated and back online.  We hope to increasingly devote ourselves to broader more specific economic initiatives such as the development and implementation of a job-training program for residents in the coming months.
